Online Master's Degree

Online Master's Degree

If you have been using the Internet for a while, there is no way you will not have encountered online master's degree courses yet. Websites providing such courses are available a dime a dozen nowadays, so much so that people really wonder whether they are for real. There are courses that promise to make you gain your masters in as less as six months, while a traditional course would take a complete two years.

So, are these courses for real? Do they really do what they say? Most importantly, should you pit your money in them?

The answer to all these questions is an emphatic NO. At least, you should not go about them blindly.

There are various sites out there for making a quick buck. They actually keep you under the scanner. As soon as you have completed your graduate degree course, you will be inundated with spam to complete your masters. They will promise you an accelerated course completion with a licensed degree and a guaranteed job. Most of these schools - well, almost all of these schools barring only a handful - are scams. Their certificates won't be worth the paper they are printed on, and considering that the certificates will be provided online for free, that's saying a lot. A clear indication is seen in this - There are many masters courses that need practical training. How can an online course that only skims into the theoretical part of the subject prepare a person for the practical part of the profession? Even if these people do get the degree, getting a job and retaining it will become difficult if they haven't been trained in the practical aspect of it. However, online master's degree courses for professions that do not require much hands-on activity will work. This is where you can take the benefit of distance learning from your own home and at your own leisure. A very significant area in which online master's courses work is in the nursing profession where bridging courses are much in demand. An example is the LPN to RN degree which is also a much sought-after degree. Licensed practical nurses will try to study further and qualify to become a registered nurse, but without giving up on their existing job. The only way they can do it is by going through an online school. In this case, the LPN to RN degree works because these nurses already have the necessary practical experience by virtue of their previous degree and the job they are already in. So, it does not mean that all online master's degree providers are scammers, but you need to keep your mind open. You can get your masters or associates degrees from them, but make sure they are genuine. Visit their physical offices if you can and check into their accreditations. Also, make sure that the certificates they will provide will work in the state you reside in. If you tread carefully, your online master's degree can become the asset you need it to be.
